For 2011, our Recordable Injury Frequency on a global basis was 0.77,
our best performance to date and a performance improvement of 34%
against 2010. Nearly 46% of our manufacturing and
Research & Development (R&D) sites had no recordable injuries in 2011.
While we are pleased with the performance improvement, we remain focused
on continuously reducing injuries. Our lost time injury frequency was
0.29 in 2011.

process safety
Cytec’s definition of Serious Process Safety
Incidents was aligned with the Center for Chemical Process Safety in
2010. CCPS defines this category of incident as unintentional releases
from a Chemical Process above specific thresholds, or events causing
lost time or worse injuries or events beyond $25k in direct monetary
damage. During 2011, we had one such incident that met these criteria,
which is a significant improvement over 2010. The decrease can partially
be explained by a change in our metrics, which measures various process
safety leading indicators. We improved our systems to investigate the
root causes of these incidents.

Transportation Safety
Cytec measures the number of transportation-related incidents involving
Cytec material under Cytec’s custody and control. The four year average
frequency of incidents is 0.11 incidents per 1000 shipments.
