Cytec continues
to move towards more sustainable products that offer substantial
environmental, health and safety advantages and more value to its
customers. We feature a few of these products, with more available
through product referral and sales account managers.
engineered materials
BR® 6700 -
Adhesive bonding primer for aerospace applications
100 percent water-based and does not include exempt solvents to achieve
its zero VOC level rating. The product falls below all emission
regulations for structural adhesive bonding primers and offers
mechanical properties and corrosion resistance equal to solvent-based
primer systems.
Complies with stringent VOC
emission standards.
CONAP® CE 2290 -
Single component acrylic conformal coating for
electrical components and electronics applications
Offers fast drying times, repairability and exceptional protection from
adverse environmental conditions. The product adheres to more stringent
hazardous substance regulations without the use of petroleum-based or
reportable solvents. It is a regulatory-friendly alternative for high-performance
thin film applications.
Reduces regulatory costs from
non-petroleum based, bio-derived solvent formulation.
coating resins
RESYDROL® AY 6705 - Waterborne
alkyd used in wood stain formulations
Waterborne acrylic modified alkyd resin to extend stain durability with
its outstanding penetration for timber substrates. This product includes
33% renewable raw materials (without water) and allows formulation with VOC
<100 g/L.
Includes Renewable Raw Materials.
UCECOAT® 7200 - Hard coating for
wood & plastics for consumer electronics
Able to meet the consumer electronics market need for a reduced carbon
footprint, non-hazardous, low emission, solvent-free sprayable coating
without compromise in hard coat performance.
Complies with stringent VOC emission standards.
in process separation
AERO® 7260 – Reagent for copper-molybdenum
metal extraction
Replaces harsh reagents in copper-molybdenum flotation operations. It
achieves high quality metallurgical performance and does not produce
toxic hydrogen sulfide gas even under the reducing conditions found in
many Cu-Mo operations. The product offers flotation operators greater
flexibility over a wider range of pH and pulp potential without fear of
creating a serious health hazard.
Reduces health hazards from toxic gas release.
FLOTATION MATRIX 100® protocol –
Flotation collector agent for metal extraction
Replaces highly scrutinized traditional xanthate collectors from toxic
carbon disulfide byproducts from decomposition. It is used to redesign
flotation collection blends for improved worker safety. It requires
lower doses than the incumbent chemicals and further reduces the overall
process footprint.
Eliminates the worker inhalation exposure to carbon
disulfide.

AEROSOL® OT-75 E OPV and OT-70 PG OPV surfactant
grades -
Over Print Varnishes (OPVs) for use in food packaging
Helps to meet more stringent requirements of less than 50ppb of 2
ethylhexyl maleate (DEHM) extractable from the final coating at given
levels of surfactant incorporation and OPV thickness levels. Cytec also
provides AEROSOL products with zero APE content and low VOC content to
help our customers in their sustainability efforts.
Enable customers to meet the new industry requirements.
CYASORB CYNERGY SOLUTIONS® V Series Stabilizers -
Automotive interior and exterior components and trim
Enhances the durability of plastics and helps protect their color and
appearance over the life of the vehicle. UV-stabilized plastics are
replacing metal and other materials in automobiles.
The lighter weight of automotive components leads to better
fuel efficiency and lower CO2 and nitrogen oxide emissions.
Plastic components can also be recycled in many cases.

iSUSTAIN® Green Chemistry Index
Cytec’s alliance with Sopheon and Beyond Benign is offers public access
to a Research and Development tool guiding scientists toward more
sustainable new products. It is based on the 12 Principles of Green
Chemistry (Warner, Anastas) and gives quantitative comparisons between
different prototypes or processes too optimize the desirable safety,
health and environmental properties. You can gain access to this tool
via www.isustain.com.
CPASS Mining Consortium on Sustainability in the Mining Industry
Cytec is a founding member of the Greener Mineral Processing program at
Columbia University under the auspices of an NSF Industry/University
Cooperative Research Center known as the Center for Particulate and
Surfactant Systems (CPASS). This program addresses two central
sustainability topics of concern in the mining industry:
(1) Developing metrics for chemical evaluation and its use in flotation
operations
(2) Improving water and energy efficiency in flotation operations
through improved understanding of the impact of pulp suspension
microstructure on performance.
Cytec contributed toward developing a novel Greenness Index based on an
integration of the Twelve Principles of Green Chemistry and the
International Council on Mining and Metals’ Ten Principles for
Sustainable Mining Development. This multi-parameter metric will allow a
more complete comparison of the benefits and deficits of chemical usage
in flotation operations.
