Cytec has a five-year goal to improve intensity by 12% with intensity
defined as emissions of CO2 equivalents per kilogram of product. In
absolute terms, Cytec reduced GHG emissions by 3% and improved
intensity by 0.3% as compared to a 2.4% target against 2010.
Cytec’s GHG emissions are primarily from energy usage, natural gas,
steam and electricity. It is almost an even split between direct GHG
emissions, those from sources directly controlled by Cytec, and indirect
emissions such as purchased electricity. The reductions in GHG emissions
come mainly from energy reduction projects and switching to less CO2
intensive fuels.

Cytec tracks all releases of materials to the
environment, including air, water and land, as well as releases to
secondary containment, including air pollution control equipment and
wastewater treatment systems. Our sites have had a continuous
improvement goal to reduce all unanticipated emissions to the
environment by
10%, year-on-year (see chart below). During 2011,
the number of releases to the environment greater than one pound of
material was 13, versus 33 in 2010, a 60% improvement.
