Specialty Monomers

Cytec is a leading producer of crosslinking monomers that provide cost-effective solutions for the performance needs of the coatings, adhesives, textile, nonwovens and plastic industries. They are key components that deliver specific properties such as solvent resistance, scrub resistance, high-impact resistance and wet strength. CYLINK® crosslinking monomers can be used in both emulsion and solvent polymerizations.

CYLINK Monomer range:

Product Properties Application Areas
CYLINK NMA N-methylol acrylamide.
A bi-functional monomer with a polymerizable vinyl and hydroxymethyl functionality. Reactions can be carried out at either both groups or independently.
Used in emulsion polymerisation to produce latex binders for nonwoven, textile, adhesives, surface coatings, paper coatings and resins for varnishes.
CYLINK NMA LF A low formaldehyde version of CYLINK NMA. Used instead of CYLINK NMA where lower formaldehyde levels are required.
CYLINK IBMA Iso-butoxymethyl acrylamide.
A bi-functional monomer that combines a readily polymerizable vinyl group and a crosslinkable iso-butoxymethyl acrylamide group. Very low formaldehyde release.
Used in both emulsion and solvent polymerizations. Used in can coatings, UV cured systems, photo-resists and both latex and solution coating resins. Used where ultra low formaldehyde levels are required. Also used in wood adhesives, varnishes and metal coatings. Can be used as a reactive diluent in radiation curing systems.
CYLINK NBMA 801 N-butoxymethyl acrylamide.
The n-butoxy version of CYLINK IBMA. Major polymer properties it imparts are improved water and solvent resistance, improved adhesion, improved tensile strength, flexibility, resistance to blocking and good hand properties. Very low formaldehyde release.
Used in both emulsion and solvent polymerization. In textiles and nonwovens where ultra low formaldehyde levels are required. In coatings enhances scratch resistance and imparts superior water and solvent resistance. It also improves water and solvent resistance in adhesives. Can be used as a reactive diluent in radiation curing systems.
CYLINK MBA N,N'-Methylene bis acrylamide.
A bi-functional internal crosslinking monomer. Also capable of free-radical polymerization. It can be used to propagate and form extensive polymer networks. This produces application properties such as, higher tensile strength, impact modification and super-absorbency. Reacts with alkyd resins and polyesters to form hard resins.
Used in super-absorbers for diapers, hygiene products and water retention products for agriculture and soil stabilization. Used in ion exchange resins, polyester resins, coatings and laminates, water absorbing composites for waterproof cables, hydrogels and thickeners. Used as an acid scavenger in UV resistant PVC.
CYLINK C4 A proprietary wet adhesion monomer that is water soluble. It provides outstanding wet adhesion and scrub resistance for acrylic, vinyl-acrylic, styrene-acrylic and vinyl-VEOVA polymers. It imparts excellent stability against homo-polymerization. Gives cost effective adhesion to chalky or aged alkyd substrates under wet or humid conditions. Specifically designed to address the needs of the interior and exterior architectural coatings market for wet or high humidity conditions.
CYLINK TAC Tri-allyl cyanurate.
A tri-functional internal crosslinking monomer capable of forming homo-polymers and copolymers. It imparts improved heat and solvent resistance, improved electrical properties and hardness.
Crosslinker for polyesters, epoxies, PVC and polyolefins. Used in wire and cable coating, molding and rotomolding compounds, optical lenses, polyester or polyethylene vessels and tanks, industrial adhesives, ABS and encapsulation products.
CYLINK DOM Dioctyl maleate.
An internal plasticizing monomer used in copolymers with styrene, vinyl acetate, EVA, acrylates and PVC.
Used in emulsion polymerization for the production of soft polymers or latex for paint, adhesives, textile and paper coating applications. Plasticizer in flexible PVC.
