Surfactants, or surface active agents, are amphiphilic molecules, containing both oil-soluble (hydrophobic) and water-soluble (hydrophilic) portions. They alter the surface and interfacial tensions of products creating critical performance properties such as emulsification, wetting, dispersing and solubilizion. Cytec is a leading global supplier of sulfosuccinate surfactants that are used in a wide range of industries from emulsion polymer (EP) synthesis, paints, over print varnishes (OPV), inks, adhesives, agrochemicals, plastics and many more.
AEROSOL® OT surfactant, which is offered in a range of physical forms, is a supreme wetter and is considered an industry standard. Cytec have also just introduced 2 new grades, AEROSOL OT-75 E OPV and OT-70 PG OPV, which offer ultra-low levels of residual di ethylhexyl maleate (DEHM) to address current concerns in the OPV market. Cytec also offers a range of alkyl phenol ethoxylate (APE) free emulsifiers for the EP market.
Cytec TS&D chemists can offer advice on which products to use in your formulation as well as start- up recipes for EP production.
AEROSOL surfactants fall into four categories:
