Cytec produces mesophase pitch-based carbon fibers in continuous tows of 2,000 filaments and 4,000 filaments. Mesophase pitch - a liquid crystal form of condensed aromatic - offers the ability to form carbon fibers which have advantages in many applications, such as higher density, dramatically higher thermal conductivity, more negative CTE, higher modulus and superior frictional characteristics when compared to PAN-based fibers.
