Cytec Announces FDA Food Contact
Clearance for
AEROSOLŪ surfactant’s EF-800 and EF-810
Woodland Park, NJ – November 15, 2012 - Cytec Industries Inc.
(NYSE: CYT), and its affiliated companies, today announced that
two of its newest Alkyl Phenol Ethoxylate (APE) free
AEROSOLŪ surfactant’s EF-800 and EF-810 have been cleared by the
Food and Drug Administration via Food Contact Notifications No.
1182 and 1205, respectively. As such AEROSOL EF-800 and
EF-810 may now be used in food-contact applications
corresponding to those described in 21 Code of Federal
Regulations (C.F.R.) Sections 178.3400 ("Emulsifiers and/or
surface-active agents"), 176.170 ("Components of paper and
paperboard in contact with aqueous and fatty foods"), 176.180
("Components of paper and paper board in contact with dry
food"), and 175.105 ("Adhesives"), provided that it is used at a
level not exceeding 5% by weight of total monomers used in (1)
adhesive formulations complying with 21 C.F.R Section 175.105 or
(2) the emulsion polymerization of polyvinyl acetate, acrylic,
and vinyl/acrylic polymers intended for use in coatings for
paper and paperboard.
These clearances are important as Cytec’s customers can now use
the two products as emulsifiers in the manufacture of latex for
use in adhesives and films for food contact.
