New Innovative
Acrylates for Food Packaging Applications from Cytec Industries
Inc.
Brussels – September 22, 2010 – Energy Curable technologies have
already made significant inroads into non food applications, but
are slow to conquer food applications due to migration, odor and
taste transfer issues. EBECRYL LEO® resins from Cytec
Industries Inc. (NYSE:CYT) prove that these issues can be
overcome. Besides having print properties which meet at least
the quality of standard resin grades, Cytec’s range of EBECRYL
LEO® resins shows attributes in line with legal and
industry requirements’.
“In order to meet this challenging profile, we have developed
new qualities of raw materials and catalysts and have selected
new inhibitors with food contact clearance”, says Paul Gevaert,
TS&D Engineer Radcure. “The Low Extractable/ Low Odor Resins
design process includes a master strategy for minimizing the
transfer of acrylates from the packaging matrix. This is based
on increasing the size and cross-link density of the resin
components. This strategy permits to limit the migration of
acrylate resins
into food, under normal conditions of use. The non-mutagenic
nature of each Low Extractable/ Low Odor resin has been
demonstrated through appropriate tests”, he adds.
