Cytec Enhances Technology
for Electrostatic Separation
A robust chemically enhanced technology that
saves energy and increases efficiency by 8-11%
Brisbane,
Australia, August 6th 2010 - Energy saving and efficiency are
benefits that are sought after in a competitive and increasingly
environment conscious business community. They lend the extra
edge. Cytec’s presentation at the International Mineral
Processing Congress (IMPC) 2010, will elaborate the benefits of
their enhanced technology for electrostatic separation.
Variation in humidity, surface contamination, particle size and
temperature can all affect the efficiency of the electrostatic
separation process, causing production rate losses and quality
issues. Dr SA Ravishankar, Technical Manager at Cytec Mineral
Processing, explains, “Our new reagents, AERO™ EZ 1000 and AERO™
EZ 2000 for electrostatic separation of differing minerals, have
increased separation efficacy by 8-11% compared to control,
especially at first pass. In addition, there are substantial
energy savings as the separation process can now be conducted at
ambient temperature. An added benefit is the reduced capital
expenditure due to the bolt-on nature of the electrostatic
process.”
Dr DR Nagaraj, a Senior Research Fellow of Cytec Industries,
will also give a keynote address on “Chemical Aspects of
Sustainable Mineral Processing – A Framework for Breakthrough
Research and Successful Technology Transfer” at IMPC 2010. Dr
Nagaraj will discuss the sustainability issues facing mineral
processing operators over coming years and decades. Challenges
such as more stringent safety and environmental requirements,
more complex ores of lower grade, and the need to deliver energy
savings will require a renewed focus on new green chemistries to
deliver answers. This address will then evaluate the existing
research frameworks for their ability to meet these
sustainability challenges.
Cytec’s mineral processing experts will be stationed at Booth
No. 45 at the Great Hall, Brisbane Convention and Exhibition
Centre to meet and discuss Cytec’s new reagent technologies for
improving flotation and other mineral processing separations.
The XXV IMPC is scheduled to commence on 6th to 9th September
2010. For more information visit:
